Pitch Bible

Well school Is over, I better start posting things I did during this semester. I'll start with my pitch bible I did for one of my classes. Basically running through an Idea for a story. It's purposed for a video game, but I suppose I never really talked much about how the game would work in it...

It's supposed to be viewed as a bound book, so here's all the pages in a row.

Room Assignment + Yoshi Study Thing

So we were assigned to do a children's bedroom, I've been busy rendering my design, here's what I have so far, still a WIP.

Here's the initial sketch for that:

And here's an influence map of painting styles. I was really thinking a lot about bastion while working on this.

Also earlier this week I did a study in my sketchbook where I took Yoshi and studied the proportions and how they related back to realism, examining how the features were stretched. I scanned them in and slapped on some color.

Assignment(s): Period costumes + Lighthouse Layouts

I was assigned to create an outfit for a character in the past, present, and future themed on a specific culture. My subject was India. I tried some line-less value sculpting for this.

I mostly concentrated on the extremely colorful shawls worn traditionally in India. And tried to explore how someone today might casually wear one in a modern business setting. As for the future outfit I tried to adapt the same concept to be more uniform and sleek, with a bright yet more controlled color scheme.

Additionally, I was assigned to do value studies for environments involving a lighthouse, here's those!

Assignment: Character Expressions

We were assigned to draw the same character in multiple expressions. Here's my sheet of expressions featuring my character, the inventor Verrall Tarantella.

Maya and Megaman

Was working on my character for Maya, the models not entirely done but I wanted to test my rig by rendering out an animated turn-around. Ill probably come back and re-do it once I finish the model off.

Here's some shots showing the poly distribution. The above animation was using poly smoothing.

And this is the character design I was working off, complete with turn around.

In other news I did an illustration of a character for one of my friends mega-man fan-game. It's of their custom robot-master, Nebula Man.

The projects called Mega Man Time Tangent.

Nebula Man even has a pretty sweet theme song. The video features an old design however.

Assignment: Rat Zodiac

Assignment: Create a character duo based on a Zodiac animal, using silhouettes for design. Write them into a story.

Cheng is a humble street urchin living at the bottom rung of feudal china's strict social ladder. Even so, he's always been content with his status. Not to be mistaken however, Cheng's no fool. He learned early on that the easiest way to make it through the day unscathed was to stay polite and professional, and to keep from ruffling the feathers of his overseers.

Things change when Cheng winds up saving a feisty rat spirit in a twist of fate. In return, the spirit cooks up a conniving plan to move Cheng up the social ladder and get him a little recognition and power. Cheng ends up forced into a lot of character compromising situations, and admits he's happy as he is.

Only problem is, the spirit won't take no for an answer.

Also here's my silhouettes and reference material:

Assignment: Young Russian Pyro Girl

Here's my 3 stylized passes at this character design:

My assignment was to create a character who is a Young, Russian, Pyrotechnic Girl. These were the references I collected, I tried to use some Russian army uniform designs and general facial structure.

I've always loved the dramatic lighting on Majora's Mask concept art, so i tried to recreate that style.

And lastly I needed a third style and being crunched for time, I went for something fast and simple with a flat/cell shaded appearance.

I'll update this later with sketches and etc:

Assignment: Character Shapes and Self Portrait

My assignment the first day of characters and environments was to draw some random shapes, and then adapt them into rendered character ideas, as well as to do a self portrait.

And this is what I came up with:

These are the shapes I started with:
And here's my self portrait, I feel like the full-body is a bit more successful then the close-up, my stare is creeping me out.

On an unrelated note, one of my friends asked me to draw Adam Jenson from Deus Ex: Human Revolution riding a unicycle.

He never asked for this, but my friend did.
